President’s Administration Calls For Asylum Process Reform

Reforms target 1 million case backlog.

On Thursday, President Biden’s administration announced that it would be focusing its efforts to address the roughly 1 million case backlog in the immigration court system. These changes are in addition to the repeal of the Trump-era directives known as the Prompt Asylum Case Review and the Humanitarian Asylum Review Program,

Under the suggestions of the current administration, certain asylum cases would be moved out of the Department of Justice to be managed by the Department of Homeland Security. DHS Secretary Mayorkas stated earlier in March that, “We will shorten from years to months the time it takes to adjudicate an asylum claim while ensuring procedural safeguards and enhancing access to counsel.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the Lord to help the president’s administration to make the nation as safe as possible for both immigrants and citizens.
  • That DHS would be guided by the Lord to protect Americans and migrants.
  • For the White House to work with Congress to pass effective reform.
